Celebrating Three Decades of Dedication: Sam Binfield-Woods' 30 Years at Old Alresford Cottage
At Old Alresford Cottage, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional care to all our residents, and much of that success is due to the dedication and passion of our team. This year, we were thrilled to celebrate a momentous occasion – a surprise event for our deputy manager, Sam Binfield-Woods, who marked 30 incredible years of service with us.
A Journey of Compassion and Care
Sam began her journey at Old Alresford Cottage at the tender age of 19, fresh out of school and with a burgeoning passion for supporting others. Little did she know, this would become a lifelong vocation. Over the past three decades, Sam has touched the lives of countless residents, families, and staff members. She has become the heart of our home, embodying the essence of what compassionate care looks like.
Appointed as deputy manager in 2008, Sam has played a vital role in shaping our home's caring atmosphere, ensuring that every resident receives not just medical care but emotional support. Her calm demeanor and hands-on approach have helped nurture a family-like environment at Old Alresford Cottage, where staff and residents thrive.
A Special Celebration for a Special Leader
On Monday 12th August, we organised a surprise celebration to honor Sam's service. Surrounded by friends, colleagues, and leaders from across Hampshire's care sector, Sam was moved by the outpouring of appreciation. Directors, past and present colleagues, and managers from other homes all gathered to express their gratitude and respect for her incredible dedication. Sam was taken aback by the number of people who came to congratulate her, reflecting her deep connection with the care community in Hampshire.
Sam herself remarked that she "never expected" to spend three decades working in dementia care, but her commitment and passion for helping others were recognised early on. Her career is a testament to the profound impact that one dedicated individual can have on a community.
A Love for Animals and the Human Connection
In addition to her care for residents, Sam brings a unique warmth to Old Alresford Cottage through her love of animals. Her beloved cockapoo, Cooper, has become a regular visitor, bringing joy and comfort to everyone at the home. Cooper's soothing presence has made such a difference to our residents that he will soon undergo therapy training to become an official PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog, further enhancing the care we provide.
Not only does Sam share her canine companion with us, but she also cares for two budgies in her office, birds that once belonged to residents who could no longer care for them. This simple act of kindness exemplifies Sam's dedication to ensuring that both people and pets receive the love and attention they need.
Looking Ahead: Sam's Continued Contribution to Old Alresford Cottage
As we celebrate this 30-year milestone, we look forward to many more years with Sam at the helm of our care team. Old Alresford Cottage is more than just a workplace to her – it's a home, a community, and a place where lifelong bonds are formed. We are incredibly fortunate to have her with us, providing both leadership and compassion in equal measure.
On behalf of all of us at Old Alresford Cottage, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sam for her unwavering commitment and love. Director Chris Bialan summed it up perfectly when he said, "You are deeply loved and appreciated – happy 30th."
