Choosing the Right Care Home For You

Making the decision to move into a residential care home can be difficult, which is why it’s important to know how to choose the one that is right for you. We’ve created a list of a few questions you can ask when doing your research to help you find the perfect care home. Are there amenities nearby?

It’s good to have a town or village with a few shops and eateries nearby so you can maintain your independence, as well as providing you with a change of scene where you can buy all the essentials. At Old Alresford Cottage we are lucky to be located in Alresford, a beautiful Georgian town bursting with colourful houses, boutique shops, quaint cafés and riverside walks. There is also a train line to Alton.

What activities do they offer?

Staying active with regular exercise and activities is crucial to maintaining a healthy body and mind for as long as possible, so ensure you ask what facilities the care home offers. Popular activities at Old Alresford include armchair exercises, weekly quizzes and bingo. Our fine country house also offers the benefit of being surrounded by four acres of landscaped gardens for our residents to enjoy with their family and friends.

Can I meet the staff before moving in?

As providers of your care, knowing you can trust and get on well with the staff can make all the difference when deciding which place is right for you. In order to make you feel as comfortable as possible before you decide, one of our management team from Old Alresford Cottage will visit you to discuss your wants and needs. You’ll also be invited to visit or move in on a trial basis so you can get to know our friendly carers and the other residents and see first-hand what it’s like living at Alresford Cottage. It’s also good to know that our experienced staff continually update their skills and knowledge with regular training in order to provide the highest quality of care.

Can I decorate my room?

Your personal possessions often hold fond memories and being able to bring them with you when you move into care can really help make it feel like a real home from home. We fully understand this at Alresford Cottage, which is why we always encourage our residents to bring their own additional furniture and personal effects with them when they move in.
